allaboutasus

So, there has been a lot of buzz around Asus recently. That being said, the main cause of this was because Asus decided to completely lock it's Transformer Prime's Bootloader...and not simply locking it...they used a 128bit AES, Advanced Encryption Standard code to lock it down. Now this makes it very near to impossibility to Root your awesome tablet. Now, luckily the INTERNET was around and a multitude of petition signing forms were made and a good hundred thousandfold of people spammed Asus' email and Facebook to ask them to not lock down the Prime's bootloader. And in the end, Asus agreed to the online Android community and will provide a tool to unlock the bootloader! Yay!

Here is the Official Asus Statement from their Facebook page:
"Regarding the bootloader, the reason we chose to lock it is due to content providers' requirement for DRM client devices to be as secure as possible. ASUS supports Google DRM in order to provide users with a high quality video rental experience. Also, based on our experience, users who choose to root their devices risk breaking the system completely. However, we know there is demand in the modding community to have an unlocked bootloader. Therefore, ASUS is developing an unlock tool for that community. Please do note that if you choose to unlock your device, the ASUS warranty will be void, and Google video rental will also be unavailable because the device will be no longer protected by security mechanism."

Last Asus announcement is that they will be releasing an Over The Air update of Ice Cream Sandwich for the Prime and the date chosen is the 12th of Jan 2012, so don't forget to upgrade :D
